Character Creation Walkthrough

Just follow these instructions, and you'll do fine.

First, boot up Gmud. If you are connecting through telnet, you can skip straight to this step. If you don't have GMUD or ZhiMUD yet, click here and download it. Click the little icon that has a wall outlet with a plug on it.

This window will pop up. Since Sabrous will already be on the list if you downloaded it from this site, it should already be set to load up. Hit the 'connect' button.

Now you're almost in Sabrous already. Type 'new' and hit enter.

Now it's time to pick your character name. Pick a good name, not something like 'kichen_stov' or anything. For the sake of this tutorial, we'll be using 'demetri.' Type your character name, and hit enter.

It'll ask you to confirm your name. You can pick a new one if you're indecisive, but normally just say yes.

Pick a password for your character. The immortals CAN'T get this back for you, so make sure you won't forget it, or write it down. The game will ask you to retype your password. Go on ahead.

Time to pick your gender. You can ask the immortals to change this for you later, if you really feel you screwed up. However, it's pretty standard. M is for male, F is for female and N is for neither, or an 'it.'

Time to choose your job class. If you're confused about which class to pick, you can type 'help (whatever class)' for information on it. Your class should reflect the type of character you play. In this case, Demetri will be a warrior.
You will also pick your race now. Different races can do different jobs. The list of alotted races will show up depending on which job you chose. For help with any of them, type 'help (whatever race)' today, demetri will be a nikitak.

Now comes the fun part- stat rolling!
In general, the higher the number the better the stat. Here is a quick run down.
STR- strength. how much damage you do in battle is affected by this.
INT- intelligence. how much mana you gain is affected by this.
WIS- wisdom. how many practice sessions you get is affected by this.
DEX- dexterity. This is how often you will hit in battle, how good you are at stealing for thieves and other such sneaky things.
CON- constitution. This is how fast you regain hp while resting or sleeping.
CHA- charisma. Prices in shops are affected by this.
LCK- luck. this is a bit of a wild card, adding to you or taking away at any given time.
Anyway, stats above 17 are generally REALLY good. So roll til you get a line up you like.

ooo those are nice stats for a warrior. He'll hit a lot. He won't recover very quickly, but items will be cheap and he'll mangle his attackers. Go demetri!

This has to do with seeing colour in-game. You want to pick A. It'll be more fun and easier to find your way around. :3
Keep pressing Enter now, and you'll be in the game!

For the most part from now on, you're on your own. The on-screen instructions should help you. But before you go, let's get that HELP START out of the way. There's something important hiding under it.

Help files! You can read these, or ignore them. The important thing isn't them anyway. It's this!

Your very basic stats. These are a great referance for you. Here's how it breaks down.
HP- these are your hitpoints, in yellow. watching them through battle tells you how close to dying you are. when your hp drops (usually) below 0, you will die.
M- this is your mana, in blue. If you are a mage, you need to watch this as well. Warriors and thieves don't worry much about it at all though.
MV- your move points are in green. They decrease with every step you take. When you run out entirely (this is rare) you must rest.

All of these points can be regained by sleeping, resting, or just standing still. Now you're on your own, and at the mercy of the training area. Just follow instructions on screen, and refer to the other help files here if you're confused. Keep in mind that NOBODY is allowed to help you figure out the newbie area- you have to do it on your own.
